Rameshwaram in Just 2 Days: Complete Delhi to Rameshwaram Travel Guide 2025
When Bholenath calls, the universe aligns itself to make it happen. That’s exactly how my Rameshwaram trip unfolded — a divine yet budget-friendly 2-day pilgrimage from Delhi that covered everything from Agni Teertham to Dhanushkodi and the Ramanathaswamy Temple itself.

If you think visiting Rameshwaram requires a long vacation — think again! Here’s how I did it all in just 48 hours, spending around ₹30,000 and collecting memories that will last a lifetime.
✈️ Day 1: Delhi to Madurai – Journey Begins

My spiritual escape started on 5th October 2025, with a 5:15 AM IndiGo flight from Delhi to Madurai. After a comfortable 3-hour flight, I landed at 8:30 AM in Madurai — the gateway to Rameshwaram.
Flight Duration: 3 hours Cost: ₹8,000 Airport: Madurai International Airport
From there, I hired a private taxi to Rameshwaram — a 3-hour scenic drive (170 km) across coconut fields, small towns, and temple-filled villages.
Taxi Fare: ₹2,500
By 11:30 AM, I reached Rameshwaram and checked into a budget hotel near the Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple.
Hotel Cost: ₹2,000 per night
🌊 Afternoon at Dhanushkodi – The Land’s End of India

Since the temple darshan begins at 4:00 PM, I spent my afternoon exploring Dhanushkodi, just 18 km away from the temple.
This mystical spot marks the point where the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean meet — a sight that truly humbles you. The ruins of the 1964 cyclone and the endless ocean horizon give the place an ethereal charm.
🕐 I returned around 5:00 PM, just in time for the evening darshan.
🛕 Evening Darshan at Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple

I entered through the West Gate of the Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The long corridors (prakarams), stone carvings, and sacred chants create an atmosphere filled with devotion.
General Entry: Free VIP Entry Options: ₹100 / ₹200
My darshan lasted till 6:30 PM, leaving me spiritually content. Later, I had authentic South Indian dinner near the temple — simple yet delicious dosa and filter coffee.
🌅 Day 2: The Sacred Morning – Mani Darshan & Agni Teertham

I woke up early — 3:00 AM sharp, to be precise — for the Mani Darshan, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
🕓 Mani Darshan Timings
Open: 4:00 AM – 5:00 AM Entry Fee: Free VIP Entry: ₹100 / ₹200
The Mani Shivlingam, believed to be made of natural crystal, radiates a divine aura. Standing before it, I felt a wave of calmness — a feeling words can barely capture.
🌊 Agni Teertham – Holy Sea Bath
After the Mani Darshan, I walked towards Agni Teertham, right opposite the temple’s east gate. Taking a dip in the sea here is believed to purify body and soul before entering the temple for the next ritual.
The sunrise over the Bay of Bengal was breathtaking — an orange sky reflecting over holy waters.
💧 22 Kund Snaan – Bathing in the 22 Holy Wells
Next came the 22 Kund Snaan, one of the most sacred parts of the Rameshwaram pilgrimage. Each of the 22 wells represents a different sacred river — including Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, and Saraswati.
Kund Ticket: ₹25 Guide Fee: ₹10 per kund per person
💡 Pro Tip: Hire a local guide. They’ll take you in proper sequence and help you collect holy water from each well amidst the crowd.
After completing all 22 kunds, I changed into dry clothes before entering the temple again.
🛕 Main Temple Darshan & Architecture

Re-entering from the East Gate, I admired the Dravidian architecture, brightly painted gopurams, and the spiritual energy flowing through every corridor.
Inside, the Ramanathaswamy Jyotirlinga stood glowing in divine serenity. It’s said that Lord Rama himself installed the Shiva Linga here after returning from Lanka.
I completed my main darshan by 9:00 AM, feeling light, fulfilled, and deeply connected to the divine.
🚖 Back to Madurai & Meenakshi Temple Visit

At 9:30 AM, I took my pre-booked taxi to Madurai (₹2,000). With some time before my 8:00 PM return flight to Delhi, I visited the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple.
The temple, dedicated to Goddess Parvati (Meenakshi) and Lord Shiva (Sundareswarar), is a spectacular example of South Indian temple architecture.
Later, I boarded my flight and reached Delhi by 2:00 AM on 7th October 2025 — heart full, soul refreshed.
